New photos of progress at future Ashburn Rec Center

The new Ashburn Recreation Center — currently under construction — is a source of major interest in the Ashburn area. It’s mostly hidden behind trees and passers-by just catch glimpses of it here and there.

Now we have a new, updated look at the center thanks to our friends at Vantage Point Drone — an aerial photography company based here in Ashburn. They took some great photos of the site this week.

As The Burn has been reporting since 2016, a new Loudoun County recreation center has been in the planning for years. It’s going up on a parcel of land along Broadlands Boulevard next door to the Clyde’s Willow Creek Farm restaurant.

Construction got rolling in 2022 and, a little over a year later, things are really starting to take shape. You can clearly see how the building is starting to look like the finished product long promised in artist renderings (below).

When finished, the 117,000 s.f. community center will feature a 50-meter competition swimming pool as well as a leisure pool.

There will also be a spa, a full-size gym, a soft sensory playroom, a multipurpose room with a catering and teaching kitchen, plus classrooms, offices and meeting spaces.

Outside the center will include a multi-use trail around the property, a large courtyard with seating, a splash play area and playground equipment.

The official timeline calls for what’s known as “substantial completion” by the summer of 2025. This would be the time that the Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services department would take over and start getting it ready to open to the public.
