Loudoun’s only Bonefish Grill location abruptly closes

A shocker in Ashburn today as news is spreading that the Bonefish Grill restaurant in the Broadlands neighborhood has abruptly closed. Goodbye Bang Bang Shrimp.

The restaurant in the Broadlands Village Center was open for business as usual last night — Friday evening — and it was reportedly packed. But today, signs announcing the closure hang on the doors.

The Ashburn location — which originally opened in 2005 — is no longer listed on the company’s website. It now shows that the nearest locations to Loudoun are in Fairfax and Gainesville.

It was unfortunate news for the staff who came to work this morning ready to punch in as usual only to be told the restaurant was closed.

A manager says it was a profitability issue and that at least seven or eight other Bonefish locations around the country were also permanently closed today.

Bonefish is part of the Bloomin’ Brands restaurant group which also includes Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba’s Italian Grill. We’re told at least 30 other restaurants in the group were also closed as part of a general reduction in the number of operating units.

The Bonefish space being left behind in the Broadlands is roughly 5,000 s.f., but obviously it’s too soon to know what future tenant might fill it.
