Future science center in Loudoun gets $500,000 donation

A good news update today on the Northern Virginia Science Center that will be built in Loudoun County. Amazon Web Services — a major player in the data center business — has donated half a million dollars to the future center.

The donation makes AWS a partner in the science center’s Launch the Future campaign and will sponsor exhibits including the Habitat Theater and the Science on a Sphere installation.

As regular readers of The Burn know, the Northern Virginia Science Center has been in the works for years — but fundraising for a multi-million dollar world-class facility takes time.

The foundation behind the plans is getting close. Leaders have announced a groundbreaking for the interactive science center is planned for later this year.

The project is part of the grand plans for the Kincora property — a long-gestating development off Russell Branch Parkway near where Route 7 and State Road 28 meet. You can see much of our extensive Kincora coverage here.

Just the last week, The Burn reported on a bowling and entertainment facility called Pinstack exploring opening at Kincora — and we’re hearing through the grapevine that other new developments could be in the works as well.

Between construction hopefully beginning on the Northern Virginia Science Center this fall and possible new retail and/or entertainment venues considering options at the property, the long-awaited arrival of Kincora as a major regional destination may be at hand.
