New in NoVa: Ugly Dumpling opening first outpost in region

A small, but growing restaurant chain serving up Chinese-style dumplings, wings, spring rolls and other dishes is moving into Northern Virginia with its first location.

According to our friends at FFX.now, an Ugly Dumpling Express location is in the works for Springfield. The specific spot is on Backlick Road next door to a Taco Bamba near the Springfield Town Center.

Ugly Dumpling is a small brand — as in two locations currently — both in New Jersey, according to its website. They appear to have additional locations in the works in New York, Maryland, and Texas.

The main brand goes by Ugly Dumpling , while Ugly Dumpling Express is the quick-service version of the restaurant. Both have similar menu items, but it’s an express version that is opening in Springfield.

Ugly Dumpling Express is abbreviated as UDX by Ugly Dumpling, per a sign on the future Springfield space. You can see the online version of the UDX menu here.

According to FFX.now, Ugly Dumpling Express is looking to open its first location in the area sometime this coming summer.
