Prep work for new Trader Joe’s in Leesburg already underway

Things seem to be moving quickly for the future Trader Joe’s grocery store coming to Leesburg. The roughly 15,000 s.f. space is already being prepped and the store’s Virginia ABC license application has been submitted.

Trader Joe’s is coming to the Fort Evans Plaza II retail center. That’s near the intersection of Fort Evans Road NE and Battlefield Parkway NE. It’s going in next door to the new HomeGoods store there.

The Burn first broke the Trader Joe’s news back in February and quickly got our information confirmed with a spokesperson for the company.

Now, the official ABC license notice is hanging on the front door of the space. This step is a requirement for a business to sell alcohol in Virginia.

The openness with the news that the brand is coming to Leesburg is in marked contrast to when Loudoun’s first Trader Joe’s opened in 2018.

When The Burn first broke the news that Trader Joe’s was coming to One Loudoun in Ashburn, no one would confirm a thing — even as we turned up more and more evidence.

In one of our most memorable reporting moments — even after a “Trader Joe’s Coming Soon” banner was hanging in front of the future Ashburn store, representatives from the center still wouldn’t confirm the news or comment. That was most likely due to a strict non-disclosure agreement.

Fast forward six years and a company rep immediately confirmed the Leesburg news when we reached out. Details of the future store are available online and now the ABC notice — with Trader Joe’s clearly identified on it — is visible to passers-by.

Still no official word on when TJs in Leesburg will be ready to start welcoming customers, but the space — which used to be, in part, an Aaron’s Rent-to-Own center — is already being rehabbed and prepped for the Trader Joe’s construction crews to come in and turn it into the iconic grocer.
