Farm-to-table restaurant in the works for Cascades Marketplace

Yes, you read that headline right. A new restaurant is moving into the Cascades Marketplace. This could be the first sign of a possible brighter future for the center – more on that in a minute.

There’s a lot to unpack here, so stay with us. The new restaurant is the big news — it’s going to be called Local Provisions — and it has a heavyweight talent behind it.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Chef Michael Stebner, who has a deep background in the culinary and restaurant world. He was the Director of Culinary for the Sweetgreen brand for nearly six years.

He also helped develop the True Food restaurant brand and is a co-author of the “True Food Cookbook.” And he’s led teams at restaurants in San Diego, Las Vegas and elsewhere.

Now, he’s got his eyes set on Sterling and the Cascades Marketplace shopping center. Local Provisions will be going into the spot that was previously occupied by a Boston Market restaurant.

Stebner describes the concept as “farm-to-table, focused on California/Mediterranean flavors, (a) wood burning grill, fresh pastas and homemade bread.”

The Local Provisions team is hoping to have construction start by the end of this summer, and would like to be open by the holidays or early 2023, if all goes smoothly.

The news of Local Provisions coming to Cascades Marketplace may be a shock to some area residents — the center has been struggling for years and has seen an exodus of restaurants and retailers. But as The Burn has reported, there are plans afoot to reimagine the center and revitalize it. Local Provisions could be the first sign of such a rebirth.

Among the plans currently moving forward or under consideration is the addition of residential housing on some of the Cascades Marketplace property, with a tighter, more focused retail and restaurant core instead of the sprawling center it is now.

There is also discussion about possibly adding additional drive-thru restaurant space. What the final incarnation will look like is hard to say at this juncture, but a new restaurant — especially a new local, artisan concept — is a significantly positive sign.

Excited about this possibility. Love True Food Kitchen. If it’s anything like that it should be a bit.

Mike is an amazing chef. His belief in ‘real food’ is borderline religious. There will be lines out the door for this place. Can’t wait to go –

Very excited to see a restaurant I would definitely like to go to opening up in such an adorable, but closed down, location. Since I moved here in 2020, I thought it a shame that this cute little area has been abandoned and hoped it wouldn’t be taken down for more townhomes. It needs to be revived. And I’m hoping this restaurant will be the beginning of good things to come.
