Cascades Marketplace in Sterling swapping McDonald’s for Shake Shack

It looks like the longtime McDonald’s fast-food restaurant at Cascades Marketplace is going to be leaving before the new Shake Shack restaurant moves into the center.

That’s according to a report from the Washington Business Journal. The paper says McDonald’s will be leaving when its lease expires in late 2024. Meanwhile, the recently announced Shake Shack is targeting an early 2025 opening.

It was just last week that The Burn broke the news that Shake Shack was preparing to bring its first Loudoun County location to Cascades Marketplace.

The shopping center is several decades old and has seen many major tenants leave in recent years, but it’s now under new management — management that has unveiled an aggressive plan to reinvigorate the center.

It’s not clear if the Shake Shack will be taking over the 3,200 s.f. McDonald’s building and renovating it into a Shake Shack, or if Shake Shack will be moving into one of the other vacant spaces at Cascades Marketplace.

We have messages in to the management team for the center, and will report back when we get more details.
