Döner Bistro closing its location in Leesburg

The Döner Bistro Biergarten & Grill in Leesburg has confirmed that they will be closing their doors at the end of October.

According to a team member, the last day is expected to be Sunday, October 29.

The restaurant is well known for its döner kabobs, a dish that originated in Turkey and has become popular as a sandwich in modern day Germany.

The closure is due in part to the expected redevelopment of the Virginia Village shopping center where Döner Bistro is located.

Long brewing plans call for the center to be razed and a new, modern retail and residential development to go up in its place. You can see a report from The Burn on the plans here.

Rumors of the bistro’s closure have been circulating for more than a year — in part due to the redevelopment plans.

What’s not clear is whether they could relocate and reopen the restaurant and beer garden elsewhere.

The official word is that the owners will be taking an extended break while they consider any possible future plans.

Döner Bistro has been a staple of the region’s restaurant scene for years. There were once locations in DC and Frederick, Md., but they closed around 2016 and 2020 respectively.

The Leesburg location spent was originally in a spot on Harrison Street SE before moving to the Virginia Village center several years ago.
