New in NoVa: Hot chicken craze continues with three more restaurants

The hot chicken sandwich craze shows no sign of slowing down — as word arrives of three more restaurant locations planned for Northern Virginia.

The Burn has learned that Dave’s Hot Chicken, The Red Bird, and local favorite Wooboi Chicken are all expanding in the area.

Dave’s Hot Chicken, based in California, is growing quickly across the country. It opened its first Virginia location in the Tysons area back in August. Now, a second location is in the works for Alexandria.

Dave’s Hot Chicken will reportedly be taking a spot at the Festival at Manchester Lakes shopping center.

Meanwhile, The Burn broke the news about The Red Bird — a new brand that is moving aggressively into the market. They already have one spot in the works in Vienna, and now they have a second store planned for Reston at the South Lakes Village Center.

Meanwhile, Wooboi Chicken — which has two locations currently in Herndon and Alexandria — has signed a lease for a new 1,500 s.f. spot at the Shops at Fair Lakes in Fairfax.

Other brands that are part of the hot chicken sandwich wave locally include Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken that has opened multiple locations across the area, including three in Loudoun County — and also Crimson Coward Nashville Hot Chicken, which has a Woodbridge location and another one coming soon to Stafford.

The Burn also was the first to report on HCK Hot Chicken, which is coming soon to the Village Center at Dulles in Herndon.
